Finding quality children’s books for my 5-year-old, who is a strong, Black boy, is challenging. I don’t want him to grow up thinking every princess is blonde with blue eyes and every kid hero looks like Harry Potter. Have you stumbled across books that you’d recommend to other parents who want a little color or diversity in their children’s literature?

Hi!
If you search for books that have won the Coretta Scott King Book Award, you will find some titles that are suitable for your 5 year old.
Also, Newberry Medal Book award winner are pretty diverse.
Enjoy!

My recommendations would be more along the lines of middle grade. But I’ve heard a lot about Troy CLE’s Marvelous World series (pitched as the black “Harry Potter").

Here’s a list I found: Multicultural Children’s Lit

Thanks for the list you posted! Here’s another one focused on books highlighting Hispanic heritage for pre-k through 8th grade.
