Although I may not have picked up on it as a kid, I've been surrounded by multiple cultures my entire life. In the most obvious sense, there's the relationship between my mother and father: she's from Mexico, he's from the U.S. The result, in the form of my two brothers and I, was biculturalism personified. But it delved a bit deeper than that by the time I was able to speak. The friends I made, the music I listened to, all by the ripe age of five or six, started becoming more and more reflective of the world-view I'd been exposed to at home...
