My family is a mix of African-American (my husband), Norweigan, Mexican, German (me), and more that I have yet to confirm/learn (my own family history is a bit amiguous).

That makes our boys a true "melting pot"/"blur"!
As a French major in college, I lived and studied abroad and have always had a hunger to learn about world cultures. Growing up I always had a "rainbow" of friends, and I think this laid the foundation for my openness, respect, and curiosity to always learn more about others and to bring together people from different backgrounds to see that we often have more similarities than differences!
In May, 2007 I was a new mom who had just moved to a predominantly Caucasian neighborhood in Orange County, CA. It was a far cry from my diverse upbringing in Seattle, WA. In an effort to ensure that my children would grow up around other "melting pot" children like them, I created an organization called "Melting Pot Moms". It quickly grew to over 90 members, and a year later we had chapters in four more states.
Our group emphasizes the importance of cross-cultural sharing through our diverse membership and culturally-based activities. We hope that our children will grow up to be "citizens of the world" with a sensitivity and knowledge of the cultures that make up the world around us, both near and far.
The MISSION of MELTING POT MOMS is to:
- Educate ourselves and our children about different cultures
- Provide a social environment where our children can learn to appreciate their own ethnicity, as well as that of others
- Support our members in regards to issues of child-rearing and family enrichment
- Promote, support, and celebrate multiculturalism in our communities
