Although it seems as though there are a million planes in the skies today with passengers enjoying the comforts of everything from tiny twin-engine biplanes to luxurious San Francisco private jet charter aircraft, early aviation options were quite more limited. One of the most interesting things about early flight is that the first airplanes designed for passenger travel were often guided by bonfires and fiery beacons in the 1920s. It wasn't until the late 1920s, about twenty-five years after the first man-powered flight that Charles Lindbergh made his historical non-stop crossing of the Atlantic traveling an astounding 3,600 miles.
