Just chillin' at Great Country Farm on Ashu's birthday.
I am a mom of two boys adopted from Thailand, and Ethiopia, respectively. My husband and I are mostly Anglo-American with a bit of French and Irish thrown in, so as you can imagine, our family is a "colorful" one. How my family come to be? Well, I always wanted an international family, ever since I was a little girl of 10 and read the book "The Family Nobody Wanted" by Helen Doss. She wrote about adopting 12 (yes, 12!) children of ethnically-diverse ancestries in the late 1930s - 1940s in the U.S. She was my hero, and I wanted to be like her, adopting multiracial and ethnic children to form an international family. I'm not quite as ambitious - only two children, not 12! All I can say is, I'm really glad to be part of this multicultural world, and Obama's election makes me so proud to be an American right now. I can point to him and tell my children that their future is wide open.

Grew up daughter of a college professor and school teacher, but whose ancestry includes Texas cowboys, southern plantation owners, and World War II B-17 navigators. Participated in archaeological digs in Israel, went hosteling in my 20s and 30s, married a tech geek, and then settled down to motherhood a bit later than most (at 40). Always wanted an international family, and made sure that happened through adoption.
